T-Bones’ Longballs Too Much For Canaries

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Sioux Falls Canaries were unable to protect their early lead, as a pair of Kansas City home runs sunk the Birds 9-6.

The scoring started early. A first-inning wild pitch scoring Mason Davis to give Kansas City a 1-0. lead.

The Canaries responded quickly in the bottom of the inning. hitting four singles in their first five at-bats. That included an RBI single by Chris Grayson to tie the score and a two-run single by Jordan Dean to give the Canaries the lead.

John Straka escaped trouble in both the second and third innings, allowing only one run with the bases loaded in each inning. The lone run came in the third, cutting into the Sioux Falls lead.

Four more T-Bone runs came across in the fifth, capped off by a two-run home run from Keith Curcio. It was Curcio’s team-leading eighth home run of the year. The T-Bones led 6-4 after four-and-a-half.

A sacrifice fly from Mitch Glasser scored Jordan Smith to make it 6-5.

Kansas City put the game out of reach in the ninth on a three-run blast off the bat of Noah Perio Jr., giving the T-Bones a 9-5 lead. Sioux Falls got a run back in the bottom half, but lost the series finale 9-6.

ODDS AND ENDS

Sioux Falls was unable to break their losing streak, which now sits at a season-high eight games … Mike Hart extended his hitting streak to eight games … Sioux Falls tied their season-high by turning three double plays on Thursday … all nine Sioux Falls batters reached base in the loss.
