Start making plans to come out to The Birdcage in 2021, because now you know when the Sioux Falls Canaries will be playing.
The American Association released its schedules today. Here is the slate for the Birds, who will return several key players from the 2020 squad that was the first in Sioux Falls to reach the league finals in 10 years.
Things are back to normal with a 100-game season after the pandemic-shortened 60-contest campaign in 2020.
The Canaries will have 56 home games, starting with a nine-game homestand that will launch on May 18 and finishing with a six-game homestand that closes with the Sept. 6 finale.
After only six teams competed in the league last season, the AAPB will have 12 squads in 2021 and return to a two-division format. Sioux Falls will compete in the South division with five other teams -- The Sioux City Explorers, Lincoln Saltdogs, Kansas City Monarchs (formerly the T-Bones), Cleburne (TX) Railroaders, and the new Houston Apollos, a "travel team," which will play all of its 100 games on the road.
The North division will comprise of six teams: The Winnepeg Goldeyes, Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks, Milwaukee Milkmen, Chicago Dogs, Gary-South Shore Railcats, and the Kane County Cougars -- the AAPB's other new team -- located in the Chicago area.
The top two clubs in each division will qualify for the playoffs.
