Sioux Falls, SD – With the Sioux Falls Canaries in the final stretch of the 2017 season, the Canaries are excited to open voting to the fans for the Birds’ End of Season awards.

With just seven games in the season, the Canaries sit at 42-51 and have shown a remarked improvement in their first season under head coach Mike Meyer.

Four Canaries were named the PointStreak Player of the Week this season, including two pitchers in successive weeks: Miles Nordgren and Grady Wood. Jabari Henry and Ty Morrison also earned PointStreak Player of the Week honors in June and July, respectively.

Henry has been one of the best hitters in the American Association, hitting .283/.385/.566 with 13 doubles, a triple, 23 home runs and 60 RBI. Henry’s 23 home runs are second in the Association, while his 60 RBI are second on the team behind Burt Reynolds’ 63 RBI.

Henry is one of three Canaries, along with Reynolds and Chris Jacobs, to have 15+ home runs on the season. Jacobs’ 19 home runs are tied for fifth in the league, while Reynolds has hit 15 home runs this season.

Morrison earned his Player of the Week honors during his 21-game hitting streak, the longest hitting streak in the Association this season. Over that stretch, Morrison went 33-for-85 (.388) with 10 multi-hit games for the Canaries.

On the mound, the Canaries were led by one of the best pitchers in Wood, who’s 112 strikeouts rank fifth in the Association, while his 2.60 ERA ranks second. In a three-game stretch in August prior to earning PointStreak Pitcher of the Week honors, Wood went 3-0 record and 0.72 ERA.

Nordgren earned his PointStreak Pitcher of the Week honors after pitching a two-hit, complete-game shutout against the St. Paul Saints on August 10. Since July 1, Nordgren is 3-4 with a 2.22 ERA.

In the bullpen, the Canaries are led by a pair of flamethrowers in James Jones and Dylan Thompson. Thompson was the Canaries’ lone All-Star this season, while Jones’ 2.52 ERA is the best among Canary pitchers.

And in the field, Dan Motl has been one of the best defensive centerfielders in the league, with a 1.000 fielding percentage, 219 putouts and 6 assists. 2B Brett Marr and SS Blake Schmit have also been terrific duo up the middle for the Birds in the field.

Fans will be able to vote for the Canaries Team MVP, Pitcher of the Year, Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Most Improved Player on the Canaries’ social media pages.

Fan voting for the Canaries End of Season Awards begins Wednesday, Aug. 30 at 8:00 AM and will run through the final out of the Canaries final regular season game on Sept. 4
