SIOUX FALLS, SD -- At least it’s still spring training.
The Sioux Falls Canaries fall to the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 9-1 Tuesday at the Birdcage. The only Canary run came off the bat of Clint Coulter in the fourth inning.
Fargo-Moorhead started the scoring early, in fact, before the Birds even touched the field offensively. After putting up a two-spot in the first, They cruised into the middle innings.
Besides the home run blemish from Coulter, the RedHawks put up seven runs in the final four innings including a three-run home run from T.J. Bennett in the sixth. This extended the lead to 5-1.
After an RBI double from Brennan Metzger in the seventh, the RedHawks put up three more runs in the eighth. Devan Ahart reached first to lead off the top half of the inning. Chris Jacobs hammered a ball off the ‘330’ divot in right-centerfield giving himself a standup RBI triple. Two pitches later he came home on an Alex Boshers wild pitch. Finally, after a couple more runners reached base for the RedHawks, Brian Olson finished the game’s scoring with an RBI groundout to second base posting a 9-1 score for Fargo-Moorhead.
Today’s matchup against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks was the final spring training game for the Sioux Falls Canaries. The Canaries will start a two-week road trip on Thursday, May 16. The first four contests will be against the Cleburne Railroaders in Texas. First pitch is scheduled for 7:06 pm.
