Sioux Falls, SD – The Sioux Falls Canaries fell to the Salina Stockade, 9-7, in 11 innings at Sioux Falls Stadium in front of a crowd of 3,138.

The Canaries battled back three times against the Stockade, from one run down in the second, fifth and eighth innings, but they couldn’t come back on final time in extra innings.

After the Stockade took a 2-1 lead in the top of the second inning against Bo Hellquist, Aaron Gretz and Brett Marr hit back-to-back solo home runs to give the Birds the lead. After Dan Motl walked, Jabari Henry followed one batter later with a two-run blast, his 22nd of the season, to give the Canaries a 5-2 lead.

Salina got a run back on Jesse Baker’s solo home run in the top of the third before taking the lead against Hellquist with three runs on three hits in the top of the fifth.

Blake Schmit’s solo home run in the bottom of the fifth tied the game at six, but another solo homer off the bat of Baker gave Salina a 7-6 lead in the top of the seventh off Andrew Woeck.

But the Canaries once again battled back and tied the game on Burt Reynolds’ steal of home in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Neither team scored over the ninth and tenth innings before the Stockade scored two runs in the top of the eleventh against Jose Ortega to take the lead.

And Cody Strayer shut down the Canaries for the second-straight inning the bottom of the eleventh to give the Stockade a 9-7 victory in 11 innings.

Ortega takes the loss for Sioux Falls, who fall to 38-45 on the season, while Strayer picks up the win for Salina, who moves to 16-67 on the year
