SIOUX FALLS, SD- The Sioux Falls Canaries erased an early 3-0 deficit to defeat the Sioux City Explorers by the final score of 5-4 on Friday night at Mercy Field and Lewis & Clark Park.

Canaries starting pitcher Bryce Morrow picked up a no-decision in his first start of the season. Morrow struck up three Sioux City batters while allowing three runs on six hits over four innings of work.

Relief pitcher Josh Ferrell picked up his first win of the season after racking up four strikeouts over two shutout innings. The southpaw gave up a leadoff single in the bottom of the 5th inning before retiring his final six batters faced.

The Canaries bullpen of Ferrell, Blank, Jones and Ortega held the Explorers to one unearned run over the final five innings.

Sioux City starting pitch Alex White retired five of the first six batters faced, but left the game early due to injury. White also pick up a no decision in his first start, allowing three runs on two hits, walking five batters over 3 1/3 innings of work.

Relief pitcher Kieth Picht suffered the loss after allowing two runs on two hits over 1 2/3 innings.

Blake schmit had another good night at the plate, going 2-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored. Chris Jacobs posted his first multi-hit night of the season, going 2-for-4 with a walk and a strikeout.

The Canaries open up their home portion of the 2017 American Association schedule on Saturday night at 6:05 PM against the Explorers. RHP Grady Wood will make his first start of the season against Explorers LHP Cody Forsythe.

The Birdcage gates will open at 5:00 PM with the first 1,000 fans receiving a FREE Canaries Magnet schedule, courtesy of First PREMIER Bank Card. Current Canaries players and coaches will be on hand inside the main concourse area to help assist in the official opening of the Birdcage gates.
