St. Paul, MN – Behind Grady Wood’s complete-game shutout and Burt Reynolds’ six RBI, the Sioux Falls Canaries topped the St. Paul Saints, 7-0, at CHS Field to take the four-game series against their North Division foe.

On the hill for St. Paul, Ryan Zimmerman faced the minimum and didn’t allow a Canaries’ hit until the third inning in his first start since being activated off the disabled list.

The Birds loaded the bases in the top of the third inning against on a hit-by-pitch, walk and Jabari Henry single, but Zimmerman got out of the jam unscathed.

Sioux Falls again loaded the bases against Zimmerman in the top of the fourth and this time he didn’t escape the jam unscathed, as Burt Reynolds knocked in two runs with a RBI single to give the Canaries a 2-0 lead.

For the Birds, Grady Wood outdueled Ryan Zimmerman in his first start of the season against St. Paul for much of the night, shutting out the Saints and allowing just three hits through his first seven innings of work.

Jabari Henry gave the Canaries an insurance run with his solo home run, his second in as many days, in the top of the eighth, extending Sioux Falls’ lead to 3-0. Henry’s home run, his 20th of the season, tied Kansas City’s Kevin Keyes for the American Association lead in homers.

Wood worked a scoreless eighth, picking up two more strikeouts before Burt Reynolds gave the Birds’ a few more insurance runs and put the game out of reach for St. Paul in the top of the ninth with a grand slam home run, his second slam of the series.

Reynolds finished the day 2-for-4 with a home run, his 13th of the season, a run scored and six RBI.

And Wood came out and worked a scoreless ninth as well to pick up a complete-game shutout for the Birds. Wood allowed just six hits, didn’t walk a batter and struck out six over nine complete innings at CHS Field, throwing just 115 pitches.

Wood picks up the win for the Canaries, who move to 37-42 on the season, while Zimmerman takes the loss for the Saints, who fall to 42-37 on the year.
