Gerald enters his second season as the Canaries' hitting coach. In 2017, he led an offense that finished fourth in the American Association with 5.09 runs per game. Gerald began his coaching career as the hitting coach of the Shreveport Sports, of the Central Baseball League and later the American Association, in 2004. Gerald spent parts of three seasons with the organization before taking over as manager for the remainder of the 2008 season. He also served as the hitting coach for the Minnesota Blizzard Elite program from 2013 to 2016.
Gerald played in 1,323 games over 17 professional seasons, with a career .263 average to go along with 1,265 hits and 769 RBI. The St. Paul's, N. C. native was originally drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 3rd round of the 1989 MLB Draft. He played in over 500 minor-league games in the Royals, Cardinals and Twins organizations.
