Sioux City’s starting pitcher Eric Wordekemper (0-0, 3.60 ERA) did his best to snap the Explorers early season slump, holding the Canaries hitless over the first four innings. The Birds’ tied the game up at 2-2 in the fifth, and took the lead for good in the bottom of the seventh when Garfield scored on a wild pitch. Martinez capped off the come-back effort an inning later with a mammoth three-run home run that reached the parking lot beyond the right-field wall.
Martinez finished the night going 2-for-4 at the plate with four RBI’s and two runs scored.
