Canaries' Pimentel Named League Pitcher Of The Week
Sioux Falls Canaries left-hander Cesilio Pimentel was named the American Association's Pointstreak Pitcher of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
Pimentel earned the honor with an eight-inning gem on Friday vs. the Gary SouthShore RailCats. He took a no-hitter into the seventh in the contest, allowing one run on four hits (all singles) while walking one and striking out seven.
The outing brought Pimentel's ERA down to 1.36, easily the best in the American Association.
The Birds acquired Pimentel in a trade with the Lincoln SaltDogs just two days before Opening Night. He's drawn praise throughout the year from his coaching staff for his command and mental toughness.
Pimentel is the first Sioux Falls player to receive weekly honors since Jabari Henry won Player of the Week in the final week of the 2017 season. It's the first time a Canary has won Pitcher of the Week since Grady Wood in August 2017.
The Canaries are currently on the road in Winnipeg to face the Goldeyes, but return home Friday to face the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks at the Birdcage at 7 p.m. Birds fans can get tickets at the Sioux Falls Stadium box office or by calling 336-6060.
