Minor Shuts Out Birds, Who Head Home Friday
Daniel Minor pitched a complete-game shutout vs. the Sioux Falls Canaries on Wednesday night, and the Gary SouthShore RailCats cruised to an 8-0 win at home.
Minor allowed six hits and no walks in the performance, striking out eight. He threw 136 pitches in his second complete-game win of the season.
Jabari Henry was the only Sioux Falls Canary to record multiple hits, going 2-for-4 with two singles.
The Canaries return home on Friday for a matchup with Wichita at 7 p.m.
Wednesday was a "staff day" for the Birds' pitching staff after scheduled starter Kevin Folman had his contract purchased by the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday.
Birds starter Tyler Wolfe allowed four runs over 3.2 innings of work, including a solo home run to Tillman Pugh in the first inning, Pugh's second of the year. Gary SouthShore led 4-0 after four.
The RailCats extended their lead to 5-0 after five, and scored three more in the seventh off of Birds reliever Nicco Blank. Randy Santiesteban, Andy Paz and Wilfredo Gimenez all drove in runs in the inning.
Kyle Schepel pitched 1.1 scoreless innings to finish the game out for the Birds' pitching staff.
The Canaries return home to the Birdcage on Friday for their Christmas In July game at 7 p.m. Any fan who makes a monetary or non-perishable food item donation to the Salvation Army at the game will be entered into a drawing for a new grill thanks to the Salvation Army. Plus, the Birds will wear special Christmas-themed uniforms which will be raffled off during the game. And of course, there's an All-Star Fireworks show after the game presented by Sioux Falls Specialty Hospital.
