Sioux Falls, SD – The Sioux Falls Canaries are excited to announce that starting pitcher Grady Wood has been named the American Association’s Pointstreak Pitcher of the Week for August 20, 2017.
Wood tossed his second-straight complete-game, allowing just one run on two hits in a 2-1 victory against the Salina Stockade in his lone start of the week on August 19. Wood struck out 10 Stockade batters, walked just two and didn’t allow a baserunner after the third inning in the victory.
Prior to his start against Salina, Wood also threw a complete-game shutout against the St. Paul Saints at CHS Field on August 13, allowing six hits, no walks and striking out six.
On the season, Wood is 8-2 with a 2.52 ERA with 106 strikeouts and just 21 walks in 117.2 innings pitched. Wood’s 2.52 ERA ranks second in the Association while his 106 strikeouts are third.
And over his last three starts, Wood has been incredibly dominant, allowing just two runs over 25.0 innings pitched, good for a 3-0 record and 0.72 ERA.
Wood is the fourth Canary, and the second-straight starting pitcher, to earn the American Association’s Pointstreak Player of the Week Honors. Miles Nordgren was named the Pointstreak Pitcher of the Week for the week of August 13 after pitching a complete-game, two-hit shutout against the Saints on August 10.
Earlier this season Jabari Henry and Ty Morrison also earned Pointstreak Player of the Week honors for the weeks of June 18 and July 23, respectively.
Following an off-day on Monday, the Canaries will open a four-game series against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks at Sioux Falls Stadium, starting with a doubleheader Tuesday night at 6:05 PM. RHP Miles Nordgren (5-6, 4.35 ERA) will take the hill for the Canaries in game one of the doubleheader against the RedHawks.
