Carter Woodiel begins his first season as the "Voice of the Canaries" in 2018.

Woodiel spent last summer as the primary play-by-play voice of the Brewster Whitecaps in the prestigious Cape Cod Baseball league, calling the Whitecaps' full 53-game championship season.

A graduate of the University of Missouri, Woodiel earned his play-by-play chops at KCOU-FM in Columbia, Mo., where he served as Sports Director for the 2016-17 academic year. He called games for six different Mizzou sports teams during his collegiate career, including games from Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Charles Koch Arena in Wichita, and Sanford Stadium in Athens, Ga.

During the 2017-18 past college sports season, Woodiel worked as a play-by-play broadcaster for Westminster College in Fulton, Mo., calling baseball, basketball and football games. Woodiel also served as a writer and anchor for Newsy, a national video news network and cable television channel.

Woodiel has won several awards, including a Missouri Broadcasters' Association award in 2015 for his play-by-play work with KCOU. He has also received two awards from the William Randolph Hearst Foundation, one of the highest honors a collegiate journalist can receive. Fans can follow him on Twitter at @CarterWoodiel.
