Field Manager

Mike Meyer

Meyer enters his fifth season as the Canaries’ manager after guiding the team to an American Association championship series appearance in 2020.

Meyer served as the Birds' pitching coach from 2007-2014, winning an American Association championship with the Birds in 2008. Prior to rejoining the Canaries, Meyer served as hitting coach in 2015 and 2016 for the South Division powerhouse Laredo Lemurs. He guided them to a record of 115-85 over the two seasons, and an American Association Championship in 2015.

Meyer was a 23rd round draft pick by the St. Louis Cardinals in 2000 out the University of Arizona. Meyer played three seasons in the Cardinals’ farm system, reaching as high as High-A ball. Meyer went 4-7 with a 5.52 ERA in 67 appearances for New Jersey, Peoria, and Potomac.

Meyer then joined the independent ranks, playing with the Allentown Ambassadors, the Baton Rouge Riverboats and the St. Paul Saints from 2002-2006. In three seasons with the Saints, Meyer compiled a 26-21 record with a 4.49 ERA and 200 strikeouts in 61 games played. Meyer ranks third on the Saints all-time wins’ list.

3rd Base Coach

Pascual Santiago

Pascual our returning 3rd base coach is excited to see all the great things the Canaries will do this summer.

Pascual is the 3rd base coach for the canaries during the summer season, but in the off season he is the head baseball coach at the Prairie State Community College in Illinois. He has coached every level from high school the pro's and all points in between. Santiago, is a native of Blue Island, Ill who took over as head coach for the Pioneers' program back in 2019. With this head coaching he has worked to provide significant contributions to the Pioneer Sports and Recreation Park. with a new playing surface, windscreens and dugout fences along with several other touch up projects.
Most recently, Santiago, managed the Conquistadores de Aguada to the Puerto Rico Independent Baseball League Championship in 2021. Thanks to that accomplishment, Santiago locked down the second Manager of the Year Award for his career. He also managed 16 Conquistadores in the League's all-star game.
But that isn't all folks, during his own athletic career he played four seasons of semiprofessional football in the Midwest Football League as a wide receiver. He won Rookie of the Year honors in 1990 and was selected in the 1994 draft of the now-defunct World Football League.
Santiago is also a member of the American Baseball Coaches Association and a Union Carpenter. During the off season, he resides in Crete, ILL with his wife.
Hitting Coach

Jabari Henry

Henry, a starting outfielder, was named the Birds’ batting coach for the 2021 season.

Henry returns to the Birds after a successful 2020 season. Henry played in 45 games, had 177 at bats with 34 runs and 46 hits, nine of them home runs.

The 30-year-old, right-hander is a Florida Native, and attended Florida International University in Miami. Henry was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 39th round of the 2009 MLB June Amateur Draft, and the Seattle Mariners in the 18th round of the 2012 MLB June Amateur Draft.

Henry has spent time in the Mariners system in his minor league career from 2012-2015 in the Northwest League, Appalachian League, California League, Midwest League, Southern League, and in the Los Angeles Angels system during the 2016 season in the Texas League.
