SIOUX FALLS, So. Dak. – 2/1/2023 – The Sioux Falls Canaries Professional Baseball team, members of the American Association of Professional Baseball, MLB’s top Partner league, today issued a response to Tuesday’s presentation by the Riverline District task force:
Canaries Co-Owner and CEO Brian Slipka said, “We are extremely excited about the public announcement around the Riverline District site. The six of us from True North in attendance were all excited about the prospects for the city, the citizens of the city, and the community – both local and outstate. We look forward to being invited to engage in meaningful conversations with the stakeholders since this is so important to all of the area employers, employees, property owners, and taxpayers. We simply want the opportunity to engage in relationship and meaningful conversation.”
Since acquiring the Canaries during the Pandemic, True North Sports, part of the True North family of independently structured entities, has continued to focus on stewardship within business. This includes:

- Pursuing land and development opportunities (including the Riverline District) as options for long-term economic viability, sustainability, and stewardship and a live-work-play option for the community.
- Confirming the viability (structurally, fiscally, and location-wise) of the current stadium is untenable for a professional team in the long term.
- Bringing concrete investments to the team in order to highlight the experience of professional baseball, including a new scoreboard, turf, technology, and other improvements.
