Birds Dealt Extra Inning Walk Off Setback
Geneva, IL – The Canaries were knocked from the ranks of the unbeaten on Tuesday as Kane County topped the Birds 3-2 in ten innings.
Liam Spence drew a bases loaded walk in the second inning to open the scoring but the Cougars knotted things up with an RBI fielder’s choice in the fifth. Kane County had runners at third base in both the eighth and ninth innings but Zach Veen ended both threats with a strikeout.
Spencer Sarringar put Sioux Falls back in front with a pinch hit RBI single in the tenth inning before the Cougars promptly responded with an RBI double in the bottom half. Kane County went on to load the bases with nobody out before a sacrifice fly to deep center field ended the game.
Hunter Clanin finished with two of the Birds’ six hits while Ty Culbreth fanned five over six innings, allowing a run on five hits. The Canaries (3-1) look to even the series when the two teams meet again Wednesday at 11:30am.
