Birds Take Series With 4-0 Shutout

Sioux Falls, SD – The Sioux Falls Canaries ended their homestand with a big win over their division rival Winnipeg Goldeyes behind strong pitching and timely hitting. Three hits from Trevor Achenbach and two hits from Liam Spence were plenty enough as Tanner Brown shut down the Winnipeg lineup.

Tanner Brown set the tone early, striking out the first four Goldeyes he faced. He finished six solid innings only allowing three hits and one walk while striking out seven. The Winnipeg hurler, Zac Reininger went just four innings allowing four runs on seven hits and two walks, striking out four in the loss.

Josh Rehwaldt wasted no time in extending his on-base streak to 24 games and his hitting streak to 11 games with a first-inning triple. The Birds would get on the board in the third inning with a sacrifice fly from Rehwaldt that scored Liam Spence. Later that inning, Achenbach’s bloop single scored Jabari Henry. In the fourth inning, Liam Spence hit a line drive two-run home run to double the lead to 4.

The Canaries will finish the first half of the season on the road at Cleburne and Sioux City before the All-Star break in Kansas City. After the break, Sioux Falls will welcome Winnipeg back to Sioux Falls Stadium July 25-28. July 27th is Christmas in July Night and July 28th is Denim & Dukes Night.
