RailCats Rally to Clinch Series Against Birds
Gary, IN – The Canaries held a one-run lead in the eighth inning on Thursday but Gary SouthShore rallied to win 4-3 at the Steel Yard.
Trevor Achenbach opened the scoring in the fourth inning with a solo homerun and a sacrifice groundout from Jordan Barth in the top of the fifth doubled the lead. But the Railcats tied the game in the sixth inning with a two-out, two-run single.
Darnell Sweeney delivered an RBI base hit in the seventh to put Sioux Falls back in front but the Birds left the bases loaded that inning and would not have a baserunner the rest of the way. Gary SouthShore tied the game with a solo homerun in the bottom of the eighth before taking the lead for good with a two-out RBI single.
Six different Canaries recorded a hit as the Birds dip to 32-40 overall. The six-game roadtrip continues as the team heads to Fargo to open a three-game series Friday at 7:02pm.
