Sioux Falls Canaries Sign RHP Will Levine and INF Matt Ruiz
Sioux Falls, SD – The Sioux Falls Canaries are thrilled to announce the signing of two promising rookies, right-handed pitcher Will Levine and middle infielder Matt Ruiz, as the team continues to build toward an exciting 2025 season.
Levine, 25, brings a wealth of collegiate experience, having pitched at Arizona State (2019-22) and Long Beach State (2023) before making his professional debut with Grand Junction in the Pioneer League last season. The hard-throwing right-hander was a key piece in the Sun Devils’ bullpen, appearing in 69 games and logging 104 innings.
Ruiz, 23, is set to begin his professional career following a standout tenure at Georgia State. The versatile South Florida native saw action at both shortstop and the outfield while compiling impressive numbers across 108 games—scoring 101 runs, recording 121 hits, smashing 30 doubles and 20 home runs, and driving in 85 runs.
“I am very excited to bring in both Levine and Ruiz,” said Canaries Manager Mike Meyer. “Levine has legit back-of-the-bullpen stuff, showcasing a power fastball and plus off-speed. Ruiz is extremely toolsy, can play almost anywhere on the field, and has power to all parts of the ballpark. I look forward to them continuing to develop and playing key roles for us this summer.”
The Canaries are set to open their 33rd season on Friday, May 9, against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks. Fans can stay updated on the latest team news, group outing information, and more by visiting the official team website at www.sfcanaries.com or calling the front office at (605) 336-6060.
