Sweeney, Henry Homer As Birds Fall In Fargo
Fargo, ND – Darnell Sweeney and Jabari Henry both homered on Wednesday but Fargo-Moorhead used a pair of five-run innings to power their way past the Birds 12-3 at Newman Outdoor Field.
Sweeney’s homerun was a solo shot with two outs in the first inning and gave Sioux Falls an early 1-0 lead. But the RedHawks answered with five runs in the bottom of the second and did not trail the rest of the way.
Fargo-Moorhead scored lone runs in the fourth and fifth innings but Henry’s roundtripper came with Sweeney on base in the seventh to bring Sioux Falls within 7-3.
The Birds loaded the bases with no outs in the eighth inning and brought the tying run to the plate but could not score and the RedHawks struck for five more runs in the home half of the frame.
Sweeney finished the game with three hits as Sioux Falls drops to 7-11 overall. The Canaries wrap up the series and the six-game roadtrip Thursday at 7:02pm.
