WINNIPEG RALLIES FROM EARLY DEFICIT TO TOP CANARIES
Sioux Falls, SD – Trailing by a run after four innings, Winnipeg scored six unanswered runs Wednesday night to top the Sioux Falls Canaries 7-2 at Sioux Falls Stadium.
After two scoreless frames to start the game, Winnipeg catcher Hidekel Gonzalez led off the top of the third inning with a solo homerun. Zane Gurwitz singled to begin the bottom half, stole second base and scored on Jabari Henry’s game-tying RBI single. Henry struck again an inning later, lacing a two-out double inside the left field line to bring home Kona Quiggle and give the Birds their only lead.
But the Goldeyes answered quickly, loading the bases with nobody out in the top of the fifth and plating four runs to go on top for good. Winnipeg added a pair of insurance runs in the seventh inning on a two-run homerun from Max Murphy.
Henry finished 3-5 while Gurwitz and Ozzie Martinez each collected two hits as the Canaries drop to 26-42 overall. The two teams will play for the series Thursday afternoon at 12:05pm.
