Achenbach Homers Twice, Drives in Five as Birds Sweep Lake Country
Oconomowoc, WI – Trevor Achenbach blasted a pair of late homeruns to help the Canaries complete an opening weekend sweep of Lake Country with an 8-3 victory on Sunday.
Jabari Henry belted a solo homerun in the opening inning and Jordan Barth later scored on a wild pitch. The Dockhounds responded with a pair of runs in the bottom half but would be held hitless over the next six innings.
Wyatt Ulrich launched a solo homerun in the third inning to put Sioux Falls in front for good. Achenbach ripped a two-run shot in the top of the eighth to give the Canaries a 5-2 lead before Lake Country fought back with a solo round-tripper in the bottom half.
Achenbach came to bat again in the ninth inning and broke the game open with a three-run homerun before Charlie Hasty struck out the side in the home half.
Mitchell Walters earned the win, allowing two runs on two hits over six innings with four strikeouts. Henry and Achenbach led the offense with two hits apiece as the Birds move to 3-0 for the first time since the 2016 season.
The Canaries will now travel to Kane County to open a three-game series beginning Tuesday at 11:30am.
