BIRDS DOWN SIOUX CITY TO CLINCH FIRST ROAD SERIES

 

Sioux City, IA – The Sioux Falls Canaries clinched their first road series victory of 2022 with a 12-3 triumph over Sioux City on Thursday.

 

The Explorers struck first with a solo homerun in the opening inning but the Birds answered with four runs in the top of the second. Kona Quiggle and Zane Gurwitz led off with a pair of singles before a throwing error allowed Quiggle to score. Nick Gotta delivered an RBI single to plate Gurwitz and two more runs scored on a fielding error before the frame was over.

 

Sioux City got a run back in the home half with an RBI single but Ty Culbreth locked the Explorers’ offense down from there. The left-handed tossed seven strong innings, allowing two runs on five hits en route to his team-leading fifth win.

 

Quiggle and Trey Michalczewski each added to the lead in the fifth inning with a pair of RBI singles before a third run scored on a double play. Sioux Falls scored three more times in the sixth on a Jabari Henry RBI single and a two-run base-hit from Quiggle.

 

The X’s scored on a wild pitch in the eighth inning to get within 10-3 but the Birds scored twice in the ninth on a John Nester RBI single and a sacrifice fly from Gotta.

 

All nine batters in the Canaries lineup recorded a hit, with Quiggle and Gavin LaValley collecting three each to lead the way. Sioux Falls improves to 15-28 and now heads to Cleburne for a three-game series beginning Friday night.
