Winnipeg, MB – Connor Blair and Nick Gotta each hit their second homerun of the season to highlight the Birds in an 8-3 loss to Winnipeg on Sunday.

Winnipeg opened the scoring with a two-out RBI single in the first inning before Connor Blair led off the top of the second with a solo homerun to tie the game. But the Goldeyes answered right back in the home half with a three-run double and an RBI single to take a 5-1 lead.

Gotta’s homerun opened the third inning and brought the Birds within three runs but that’s as close as things would get the rest of the way. A two-run Winnipeg homerun following a fielding error in the bottom of the sixth put the Goldeyes ahead 7-2 before Ozzie Martinez got a run back with an RBI base hit in the seventh. Winnipeg added an insurance run in their half of the eighth inning and set the Birds down in order in the ninth.

Six different Canaries finished in the hit column led by Martinez’s two.
