CANARIES CAGE FARGO, STRETCH WINNING STREAK TO SIX

 

Sioux Falls, SD – The Sioux Falls Canaries stayed hot against division-leading Fargo-Moorhead on Friday, besting the visiting RedHawks 10-8 for their sixth consecutive win.

 

Fargo scored a pair of unearned runs in the top of the first inning but the Birds sent 11 batters to the plate in the home half, scoring six times. Gavin LaValley drew a bases loaded walk before Aaron Takacs delivered an RBI single. Zane Gurwitz followed with a grand slam to put Sioux Falls in front for rest of the night.

 

Trey Michalczewski clobbered a two-run homerun in the second inning to put Sioux Falls up 8-2 before the RedHawks manufactured a pair of runs in the top of the third. Takacs helped the Canaries regain a six-run lead with a two-run round-tripper in the fourth inning but the RedHawks answered with four unanswered runs to get within 10-8 in the eighth.

 

The RedHawks managed to bring the tying run to the plate with one out in the ninth but Riley Ferrell struck out the side to earn his ninth save.

 

Gurwitz, Takacs and Wyatt Ulrich each recorded three hits in the game while Christian Johnson earned the win in relief. Cesilio Pimentel allowed two earned runs over four innings and struck out four in his 2022 debut. The Birds are now 21-29 and will look to clinch the series Saturday night at 6:05pm.
