Canaries Re-Sign Infielder Trevor Achenbach and Catcher Spencer Sarringar
SIOUX FALLS, SD – The Sioux Falls Canaries have announced the re-signing of Infielder, Trevor Achenbach and Catcher, Spencer Sarringar.
Achenbach, 29, will enter his second season in a Canaries uniform after a fantastic 2023. The Billings, Montana native was acquired via trade a year ago from the Gateway Grizzlies of the Frontier League, and played a huge role for the Birds while solidifying the second base position. Not only a plus defender (.980 fielding percentage), Trevor was also a force at the plate, slashing .265/.363/.488/.851, and tallying 37 extra base hits.
“Trevor was even better than I had hoped for last season, playing excellent defense and really extending our lineup while providing a threat in the back half of the batting order,” said Canaries Manager Mike Meyer. “He is as sure handed as they come up the middle, and I expect him to be even more dangerous at the plate after successfully making the transition to American Association pitching.”
Sarringar, 24, also enters his second season with the Canaries, after joining the club in July following a standout collegiate career. The Northern State University/Rollings College product impressed during his rookie season, proving he could handle professional pitching both as a catcher and with the bat.
“As a former pitcher myself, I understand how critical it is for the guy on the mound to have complete trust in his catcher,” says Mike Meyer. “Spencer quickly gained the confidence of our entire pitching staff, and rapidly improved his pitch calling, receiving, and blocking. He is going to play an even bigger role for us this season, and I am looking forward to seeing the leap he takes as a professional in 2024.”
