Canaries Re-Sign Augustana Alum Drey Dirksen
Sioux Falls, SD — The Sioux Falls Canaries announced today that catcher Drey Dirksen will return for the 2026 season.
Dirksen, 25, enters his second year with the Birds after appearing in 59 games during the 2025 campaign. A versatile defender, Dirksen provided value both behind the plate and in the outfield, while consistently showcasing his athleticism. The Augustana University product and program’s all-time home run leader tallied 11 extra base hits, knocked in 13 runs, and did a great job slowing the opposing team’s run game down, nabbing 25% of would-be base stealers.
“We are excited to have Drey back for his second season,” said Canaries Manager Mike Meyer. “He did an excellent job handling our pitching staff last year and showed flashes of his extra-base power at the plate. His positional flexibility is a big asset for us, and we’re looking forward to seeing him continue to develop in 2026.”
The Canaries will open their 2026 home schedule on Monday, May 18, against the Lake Country DockHounds. Season tickets, group outings, and the brand-new all-inclusive Perch are available now by calling the Canaries Box Office at (605) 336-6060 or by visiting www.sfcanaries.com.
