EXTRA INNINGS UNKIND TO CANARIES AGAIN

Sioux Falls, SD – Gavin LaValley clobbered two homeruns against his former team Friday night, including a one-out solo shot in the ninth inning to force extras, but Kane County ultimately outlasted Sioux Falls 4-3 in ten innings.

LaValley’s first round-tripper came with one out in the second inning to open the scoring. But the Cougars responded with two outs in the top of the third on back-to-back homeruns from Cornelius Randolph and Jimmy Kerrigan.

Kane County added another run in the fourth inning on an RBI fielder’s choice before Kona Quiggle drove in Zane Gurwitz with an RBI single in the fifth to bring the Birds within a run.

The 3-2 score held until LaValley’s ninth inning homerun but the Cougars retook the lead in the tenth with a two-out RBI double from Kerrigan. Sioux Falls put two runners in scoring position with two outs in the bottom half before a groundout ended the game.

Five different Canaries recorded a hit in the contest while holding Kane County to just one hit after the fourth inning. Sioux Falls is now 23-35 overall and will look to snap a four-game losing skid Saturday night at 6:05pm.
