Sioux Falls Canaries Re-Sign INF Ernny Ordonez and LHP Tanner Brown

Sioux Falls, SDThe Sioux Falls Canaries are excited to announce the return of infielder Ernny Ordonez and left-handed starter Tanner Brown for the 2025 season.

Ordonez, a 25-year-old Bronx, NY native, was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2019 before joining the Canaries in a mid-season trade with the Kane County Cougars. In 2024, Ordonez delivered an impressive performance, recording 14 doubles, 8 home runs, 45 runs batted in, and 18 stolen bases. His versatility as a player, capable of excelling at multiple positions, and his ability to contribute both offensively and defensively make him a key player for the Canaries moving forward.

“As a manager, Ernny is one of those players you love to have,” said Canaries Manager Mike Meyer. “He is just a ballplayer. He plays multiple positions at a high level, runs the bases well, and has some pop at the plate. He will once again play a big role for us in 2025.”

On the mound, Tanner Brown, a 25-year-old Sioux Falls native and Augustana University graduate, returns for his third season with the Canaries. Brown had an outstanding 2024 campaign, making 20 starts and posting a 10-6 record with a 3.33 ERA. In 110.2 innings, he recorded 113 strikeouts. Brown took the ball for Game 1 of the postseason, scattering 2 hits over 7 innings, striking out 9 against the Winnipeg Goldeyes.

“We are thrilled to have Tanner back,” Meyer said. “I was very proud of his growth last season in all aspects of competing on the mound. His poise was off the charts, and we will be relying on him to lead our staff this upcoming season.”
