SIOUX FALLS – The Sioux Falls Canaries snapped a nine-game losing streak with a 2-0 win Wednesday at The Birdcage. The Birds and the visiting Kansas City Monarchs were scoreless until the seventh inning when Garrett Hope broke the ice with an RBI double that scored Mike Hart. Hope would later come in to score on a Cade Gotta sacrifice fly
RHP Tyler Garkow had a great performance as the Canaries starter. He went six innings and struck out seven while only giving up two hits. He received a no-decision in the contest. RHP Trevor Simms (2-0) came in relief for Garkow and earned the win. LHP Caleb Frare shut it down in the ninth and notched his eleventh save of the season.
RHP Jake Matthys also had a good outing for the Monarchs. Matthys tossed five shutout innings, only allowing two hits and three walks. RHP Dalbert Siri (2-1) took the loss after allowing two runs on three hits.
The Canaries will open up the final series of the 2021 season at The Birdcage on Friday against the Sioux City Explorers. First pitch will be at 7:05 PM. Starting pitchers for both teams are TBA.
