SIOUX FALLS – The Sioux Falls Canaries took an exciting game against the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks 5-4 Friday at the Birdcage. Jabari Henry hit a go-ahead homer in the eighth to pick up the series-opening victory.
Henry broke a 4-4 tie in the ninth vs. Fargo relief man Luke Lind as the first batter of the bottom of the eighth. His blast put the Birds ahead after Shamoy Christopher hit a game-tying three-run home run in the fifth inning.
Both starting pitchers received no-decisions for their efforts in the game. Charlie Hasty went six innings giving up four runs (four earned) on seven hits, one walk, and four strikeouts for the Birds. Andrew Tri went five innings giving up four runs (four earned) on four hits, two walks, and seven strikeouts for the Redhawks.
The Canaries bullpen shone in the game. Grady Wood (3-2) took the win for Sioux Falls after a scoreless eighth, and Caleb Frare earned his ninth save of the season by stranding a man on second in the ninth. Lind (2-2) suffered the loss after allowing the go-ahead run in the eighth.
The series continues on Saturday at 7:05 pm. LHP Matt Tomshaw (2021 AA Debut) will get the start for the Redhawks. The Canaries starting pitcher is TBD.
