The Canaries Re-Sign Ulrich and Christopher

SIOUX FALLS, SD – The Canaries announced on Tuesday morning that they have re-signed Outfielder Wyatt Ulrich and Catcher Shamoy Christopher to contracts for the 2024 season.

Ulrich, 27, will enter his 4th season in a Canaries uniform. The 2022 American Association Rookie of the Year has been a spark plug for the Canaries offense since he joined the club following an outstanding collegiate career. Carrying a career slash line of .316/.389/.410/.798, and setting a career high with 31 stolen bases last summer, Wyatt will once again be relied on to ignite the lineup at the top of the order.

“We couldn’t be more excited to have Wyatt back as the table setter this year,” said Canaries Manager Mike Meyer. “He made some serious improvements both on the base paths and in the field this past summer. He has a special skillset that can affect a game in so many ways, and is just coming into his prime.”

Christopher, 26, enters his third season in Sioux Falls. The Tortola, British Virgin Islands native has a been a premium defender, at a premium position, throughout his professional career. His presence behind the plate is evident, as the Canaries pitching staff made a complete 180 following his arrival part-way through the 2023 season.

“Shamoy has improved his handling of the pitching staff each year. He studies the opponent’s hitters as well as knowing what our pitchers do best and are most comfortable throwing in certain situations,” says Meyer. “With the new pitch clock rules, stolen base attempts have been on the rise. Shamoy has an absolute rocket of an arm, and helps keep would-be base stealers in check.”

The Canaries open their 50-game home schedule on May 17th at 7:05pm for Fireworks Friday against the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks.
