BIG SEVENTH INNING DOOMS CANARIES
Geneva, IL – The Sioux Falls Canaries led for most of the game on Saturday but Kane County scored three runs in the seventh inning to top the Birds 3-1 at Northwestern Medicine Field.
Joe Vos singled to lead off the top of the third and reached third base on a Scott Combs base hit. Vos scored on a passed ball one pitch later but the Canaries were held without a hit for the rest of the game.
The 1-0 lead held until the bottom of the seventh when a two-out RBI double tied the game before two runs scored on a single to put the Cougars in front for good.
A one-out walk in the top of the ninth brought the tying run to the plate but the Birds were unable to complete the comeback.
Chase Gearing allowed three hits and fanned five over six shutout innings. The Canaries (36-31) will look to avoid the three-game series sweep Sunday at 1:00pm.
