CANARIES FORCE WINNER TAKE ALL GAME 3 IN KANSAS CITY
Kansas City, KS – Facing elimination Friday night, Nicholai Arbach tossed six strong innings and Michael Curialle knocked in a pair of runs to help the Sioux Falls Canaries top Kansas City 3-1 at Legends Field.
The Birds left two runners in scoring position in the top of the first inning and the Monarchs hit a leadoff homerun in the bottom half. But that would be all the scoring the hosts could muster as the Sioux Falls pitching staff limited Kansas City to three hits for the contest.
Joe Vos singled to start the third inning, stole second base and scored on a Curialle double. Grady Mee walked with one out in the sixth inning, stole two bases and scored on a Trevor Achenbach single. Mike Hart opened the seventh inning with a base hit and Curialle drove him in with an infield single.
Arbach allowed a run on a hit over his six innings while the Canary bullpen combined for three scoreless and hitless frames, with Charlie Hasty retiring all three batters he faced in the ninth.
The Birds and Monarchs will play a winner-take-all Game 3 Saturday at 6:35pm for the right to advance to the West Division Championship Series.
