BIRDS OUTSLUGGED BY MILWAUKEE
Sioux Falls, SD – Milwaukee used a pair of five-run innings to power their way past the Canaries 15-9 on Friday.
The Milkmen scored a run in the second inning, five in the third and one in the fourth to build a 7-0 lead before Michael Curialle got the Birds on the board with a solo homerun.
A two-out RBI single in the top of the fifth gave Milwaukee an 8-1 advantage but Sioux Falls answered with two runs in the bottom half via wild pitch and a Joe Vos RBI single. Scott Combs homered with one out in the sixth inning to bring the Canaries within four.
The Milkmen answered with a two-out, RBI single in the seventh but the Birds refused to quit, striking back with four runs in the bottom portion. Trevor Achenbach was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Scott Combs walked before Anthony Hall ripped a pinch-hit, two-run single. The Birds brought the go-ahead run to the plate but a flyout to left field helped Milwaukee escape the jam.
The Milkmen erupted for five runs with two outs in the top of the ninth to break the game open and a Vos RBI single in the home half wasn’t enough to spark a rally.
Combs, Vos, Curialle and Chase Engelhard each finished with two hits as the Birds fall to 38-34 overall. The two teams resume their three-game series Saturday at 5:35pm.
