CANARIES SNAP SKID, ROLL PAST SIOUX CITY
Sioux City, IA – The Sioux Falls Canaries exploded for 16 hits on Wednesday, snapping a five-game losing streak with a 14-3 triumph at Sioux City.
The Canaries never trailed, jumping out to a 6-0 lead. Anthony Hall walked with one out in the first inning and scored on a Michael Curialle double.
The Birds pushed five runs across in the top of the second. Trevor Achenbach led off the inning with a homerun and Joe Vos added an RBI double. Curialle followed with a sacrifice fly before back-to-back run-scoring hits from Josh Rehwaldt and Mike Hart. The Explorers got a run back in the home half on a sacrifice groundout.
Both teams scored in the fourth inning. Curialle tacked on another sacrifice fly and Sioux City took advantage of a throwing error in the bottom portion.
Chris Kwitzer smacked an RBI double in the top of the fifth and Achenbach knocked in two more with a triple in the sixth.
Hart added an RBI single in the eighth inning to give the Birds an 11-2 edge before Mason Minzey followed with a sacrifice fly.
The Explorers responded with a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the eighth but Sioux Falls tallied two more in the ninth on run-scoring hits from Curialle and Hart.
Hart and Rehwaldt each finished with three hits while Curialle totaled four RBI. Christian Edwards allowed one earned run over six innings to earn the win. All nine Canary batters recorded a hit in the victory. The Birds improve to 13-12 and wrap up a ten-game roadtrip with one more in Sioux City Thursday at 6:35pm.
