CARDIAC CANARIES RALLY IN THE NINTH FOR FOURTH CONSECUTIVE SERIES WIN
Oconomowoc, WI – Grady Mee finished 3-3 with a two-run, go-ahead triple in the top of the ninth inning as the Sioux Falls Canaries rallied past Lake Country 6-5 on Thursday.
Michael Curialle homered with two outs in the top of the second to open the scoring but the DockHounds responded with three runs in the bottom half. Mee ripped a solo shot an inning later to bring the Birds within 3-2.
Lake Country added a run via sacrifice fly in the sixth inning to rebuild a two-run lead. Chase Engelhard cut the deficit back to one with an eighth inning sacrifice fly but the Canaries left the bases loaded.
With one out in the top of the ninth, Anthony Sharkas and Scott Combs hit back-to-back singles before Mee’s two-run triple put Sioux Falls in front for good. Mee later scored on a sacrifice groundout from Engelhard.
The DockHounds got a run back in the bottom half and loaded the bases with two outs but Charlie Hasty got a swinging strikeout to pick up his league-leading 13th save.
Kody Dalen tossed a scoreless eighth inning to earn the win and move to 3-0 while Mee led the offense with three hits and three RBI. Curialle also collected two hits and Engelhard knocked in two.
The Canaries (36-29) have now won ten of their last twelve games since the All-Star break and pull within one game of first place in the West Division. The Birds open a three-game series at Kane Country Friday at 6:30pm.
