ENGELHARD, BIRDS WALKOFF EAST-LEADING MILWAUKEE
Sioux Falls, SD – Chase Engelhard clobbered a walkoff homerun in the bottom of the ninth inning on Sunday to lift the Canaries over Milwaukee 4-3.
The Birds opened the scoring with a two-out, two-run double from Josh Rehwaldt in the first inning. The Milkmen struck back with two runs in the third and took the lead on an RBI single in the fifth.
Engelhard tied things up with a two-out RBI double in the bottom of the sixth and the 3-3 score held until Engelhard’s leadoff blast in the ninth.
Thomas Dorminy struckout six over six innings while Eric Waldichuk, Kody Dalen and Charlie Hasty each tossed a scoreless inning of relief, with Hasty earning the win. Engelhard finished 3-4 with two RBI to lead the offensive effort. The Canaries (39-35) will open a seven-game roadtrip Tuesday night in Winnipeg.
