LATE MONARCH CHARGE SINKS CANARIES

Sioux Falls, SD – Kansas City scored nine runs over the final two innings on Friday to move past the Sioux Falls Canaries 16-5 at the Birdcage.

Scott Combs homered in the third to open the scoring but the Monarchs quickly answered with three runs in the top of the fourth. Sioux Falls tied the game in the bottom of the fifth with RBI singles from Mason Minzey and Anthony Hall. Kansas City, however, struck for four runs in the sixth inning to take the lead for good.

Anthony Sharkas smacked an RBI double with two outs in the bottom half and Minzey ripped a leadoff homerun in the seventh to get Sioux Falls within 7-5 before the Monarchs broke the game open with eight runs in the eighth and added one more in the ninth.

Minzey and Vos each finished with two hits as the Canaries dip to 14-13 overall. The two teams resume their three-game series Saturday at 5:35pm.
