CANARIES BLAST THREE HOMERS TO POWER PAST GOLDEYES

Sioux Falls, SD – The Sioux Falls Canaries hit three homeruns on Wednesday and got a strong start from Nicholai Arbach to top Winnipeg 8-5 at the Birdcage.

The Birds never trailed, scoring twice in the first inning. Mike Hart smacked an RBI double and Michael Curialle added a sacrifice groundout to put Sioux Falls in front 2-0 after one.

Trevor Achenbach led off the bottom of the second with a solo homerun before both teams scored in their half of the third. The Goldeyes got on the board with a sacrifice groundout but Mike Hart responded with a solo homer off the scoreboard in centerfield.

Winnipeg fought back with two runs in the top of the fourth before Scott Combs countered with a two-run shot in the bottom half. Jabari Henry added an RBI single in the sixth inning to give the Birds their largest lead.

The Goldeyes scored twice in the top of the eighth to climb within two. Hart ripped another RBI double in the bottom half to provide an insurance run.

Winnipeg loaded the bases in the top of the ninth but Charlie Hasty tossed a scoreless frame to earn his 71st career save, moving into second all-time in league history. 

Hart finished with three hits while Combs, Achenbach and Josh Rehwaldt each added two. Arbach allowed three runs over six innings, spinning his second consecutive quality start. The Canaries (42-41) will look to clinch the series Thursday at 6:35pm.
