CANARIES CAN’T OVERCOME SLOW START IN LOSS TO WINNIPEG
Sioux Falls, SD – The Sioux Falls Canaries fell behind 7-0 early on Tuesday, rallied to get within two but were topped by Winnipeg 9-6 at the Birdcage.
The Goldeyes scored one run in the second inning, two in the third and four in the fourth before Trevor Achenbach clubbed a two-run homerun in the bottom of the fourth.
A solo homer in the top of the sixth put the Fish in front 8-2 but TJ Racherbaumer responded with a two-out, RBI double in the home half and Joe Vos followed with an run-scoring infield single.
Josh Rehwaldt led off the seventh inning with a walk and scored on a Jabari Henry double. Henry later crossed home plate on a wild pitch but that’s as close as the Birds would get.
Winnipeg hit a solo homerun an inning later and the Birds were held without a baserunner the rest of the way.
Rehwaldt and Anthony Hall each finished with two hits as the Canaries fall to 41-41 overall. The two teams resume their three-game series Wednesday at 6:35pm.
