Canaries Fall to RedHawks in Slugfest

Sioux Falls, SD – The Sioux Falls Canaries pounded out 17 hits on Friday but it wasn’t enough, falling to Fargo-Moorhead 14-9 at the Birdcage. 

The Birds scored twice in the first inning. Anthony Hall tripled to bring in Anthony Sharkas before racing home on a wild pitch.

The RedHawks tied the game with a two-run homerun in the top of the second and took the lead for good with five runs in the fourth. 

Sioux Falls got three back in the bottom of the fifth. Mike Hart drove in two with a double and Trevor Achenbach added an RBI sacrifice fly. 

Fargo-Moorhead scored three unearned runs in the top of the sixth inning before Jabari Henry homered to bring the Birds within 10-6 in the home half.

The RedHawks answered with a solo shot of their own in the seventh but Chris Kwitzer got the run back with a single in the bottom of the frame. 

Fargo-Moorhead broke the game open with three runs in the top of the ninth. Down to their final three outs, Sioux Falls got two runs back on a base hit from Sharkas and a fielder’s choice from Henry but could get no closer. 

Kwitzer led the offense with four hits while Hart and Henry each added three. The Canaries (9-5) return to action Saturday at 5:35pm.
