BIRDS DROP SERIES RUBBER MATCH

Geneva, IL – A ninth inning rally came up short Thursday night as the Sioux Falls Canaries fell to Kane County 5-2.

Neither team recorded a hit through the first three innings. Mike Hart doubled with two outs in the top of the fourth but was stranded on base. The Cougars scored three times in the bottom half via three consecutive one-out singles to take the lead for good.

Kane County tacked on two more runs in the eighth inning to build a 5-0 lead heading into the ninth.

Trevor Achenbach singled with one out and scored on a double from Anthony Sharkas. Mike Hart then drove in Sharkas with a double but the Birds left the tying run in the on deck circle.

Chase Gearing allowed three runs on four hits over six innings while Hart led the offense with two hits. The Birds (9-4) return to action Friday at 7:05pm to open a three-game series with Fargo-Moorhead.
