CANARIES OPEN HOMESTAND WITH PIVOTAL DIVISION VICTORY
Sioux Falls, SD – The Sioux Falls Canaries opened a six-game homestand with a rivalry win, topping Fargo-Moorhead 4-3 on Tuesday.
The RedHawks strung together four two-out hits in the top of the first inning to build a 2-0 lead. Scott Combs doubled in the bottom of the third and scored on a two-out single by Grady Mee.
The Birds took the lead for good with two runs in the fifth. Anthony Hall led off the inning with a single and scored on a triple from Chase Engelhard. Combs then doubled again, driving in Engelhard, to put Sioux Falls in front 3-2. Michael Curialle crushed a two-out homerun in the bottom of the sixth to give the Canaries a two-run cushion.
Fargo-Moorhead loaded the bases with one out in the top of the eighth and scored a run on a fielder’s choice before a Sean Gamble strikeout got the Birds out of the jam with the lead still in hand. Sioux Falls left runners at the corners in the bottom half but Charlie Hasty tossed a scoreless ninth inning to secure his 14th save.
Thomas Dorminy allowed two runs over six innings to improve to 6-1 on the season. Hall and Combs each finished with two hits as the Canaries climb to 37-32 overall. The two teams resume their three-game series Wednesday at 6:35pm.
