Lincoln, NE – Josh Rehwaldt drove in four runs as the Sioux Falls Canaries defeated Lincoln 5-4 on Sunday afternoon, capping a three-game opening weekend series sweep. This marks the second 3-0 start for the Birds over the past three seasons.
Vos walked to begin the first inning and scored on a Rehwaldt sacrifice groundout. But Lincoln answered with three runs in the bottom half to grab a 3-1 lead.
Sioux Falls manufactured a two-out rally in the top of the third. Anthony Sharkas singled and Anthony Hall walked before Rehwaldt belted a three-run shot and the Birds would not trail after that.
The 4-3 score held until the eighth inning when the Saltdogs tied the game on a sacrifice fly.
TJ Racherbaumer singled to start the top of the ninth and scored on a base hit from Hall. Charlie Hasty tossed a scoreless bottom half to earn his second save in as many tries.
Rehwaldt, Sharkas and Racherbaumer each finished with two hits while Spencer Bauer moved to 2-0, picking up the victory in relief.
The Canaries (3-0) open a seven-game homestand Monday at 6:35pm with the first of four against Lake Country.
