MONARCHS UTILIZE THE LONG BALL TO POWER PAST CANARIES

Sioux Falls, SD – Kansas City hit three homeruns on Friday to power past the Sioux Falls Canaries 7-2 at the Birdcage.

The Monarchs never trailed, hitting a pair of solo shots in the top of the second to build a 2-0 lead. Trevor Achenbach homered for the third time in the last four games in the bottom half to bring the Birds within one but Kansas City countered with an RBI single in the third inning.

A two-run blast in the top of the fifth put the Monarchs in front 5-1 before Achenbach doubled to lead off the home portion and scored on a Joe Vos single.

Kansas City would pull away late, however, scoring on a fielder’s choice in the seventh and a RBI double in the ninth.

Achenbachs two hits highlighted the offense as the Canaries dip to 43-42. The two teams resume their three-game series Saturday at 5:35pm.
