REHWALDT KNOCKS IN FIVE TO HELP CANARIES SNAP LOSING SKID
Fargo, ND – Josh Rehwaldt homered and drove in five on Saturday as the Sioux Falls Canaries topped Fargo-Moorhead 12-10, snapping a four-game losing streak.
The Birds jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Jabari Henry ripped an RBI double in the top of the first but the RedHawks scored four runs with two outs in the bottom half. Rehwaldt singled in the top of the second to bring in Chase Engelhard and get Sioux Falls within 4-2.
Fargo-Moorhead got a run back with an RBI fielder’s choice in the third inning but Rehwaldt’s two-out, three-run blast in the top of the fourth tied the game.
A pair of two-out, run-scoring singles in the bottom of the fifth put the RedHawks in front 7-5 but the Canaries struck for seven unanswered runs over the final three innings to take the lead for good.
Michael Curialle tied the game with a two-run homer in the seventh before Rehwaldt smacked a go-ahead RBI double in the eighth and later scored on a groundout. A Grady Mee sacrifice in the top of the ninth put stretched the Sioux Falls lead to 10-7 and Henry knocked in two more with a base hit.
Fargo-Moorhead scored three times in the bottom half and brought the tying run to the plate but Charlie Hasty ended the game with a strikeout.
Rehwaldt and Mike Hart each finished with three hits while Joe Vos added two. Henry collected two hits and drove in three. Sean Gamble, Spencer Bauer and Kody Dalen all tossed scoreless innings of relief with Bauer picking up the win in his first outing since July 21. The Canaries (40-39) return to action Sunday at 1:00pm.
