BIG SIXTH INNING DOOMS BIRDS IN REGULAR SEASON FINALE
Sioux Falls, SD – Lincoln scored six sixth inning runs to top the Sioux Falls Canaries 12-6 Monday afternoon in the regular season finale for both teams.
The Saltdogs scored twice in the top of the first but the Birds responded with two runs in the bottom half. One run scored on a groundball double play before Grady Mee tied the game with a triple. Sioux Falls struck for three runs in the second inning to take the lead. Trevor Achenbach smacked a go-ahead single before Michael Curialle knocked in two with a base hit.
Lincoln got a run back in the top of the fifth and sent 12 batters to the plate in the big sixth frame. They’d add one more in the seventh and two in the eighth to build their largest lead. The Canaries got a run back on a Curialle sacrifice groundout in the ninth but it wasn’t enough.
Joe Vos finished with two hits while Curialle tallied three RBI. Garrett Martin allowed three runs over five innings in his final start of the regular season. The Canaries (50-50) will open the postseason at home against Kansas City Wednesday at 6:30pm.
