BIRDS NINTH INNING COMEBACK FALLS SHORT IN GARY
Gary, IN – Josh Rehwaldt finished with four hits and drove in two but the Sioux Falls Canaries were dealt an 8-6 loss at Gary SouthShore on Friday.
The Birds loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the first but didn’t score and Gary SouthShore smacked a solo homerun in the bottom half.
Rehwaldt tied the game with an RBI single in the second inning before the RailCats responded with an RBI base hit of their own in the home portion.
Rehwaldt tied the game again in the top of the fourth with his team-leading 19th roundtripper. However, Gary SouthShore answered with a four-run bottom of the fourth to take the lead for good.
A pair of Sioux Falls errors in the sixth inning led to another Railcat run. Jabari Henry laced an RBI single in the eighth inning and Gary SouthShore tacked on a solo shot in the bottom half.
Trailing 8-3 entering the ninth, Joe Vos smacked a leadoff double and scored on a two-run homer from Scott Combs. Grady Mee followed with a double and scored on a Mike Hart base hit. The Birds brought the tying run to the plate with one out but could get no closer.
Hart, Combs, Michael Curialle and Cam Hassert each finished with two hits as the Birds dip to 44-47. The Canaries will look to snap their three-game losing skid Saturday at 4:00pm.
