HENRY HOMERS TWICE TO HELP BIRDS SNAP SKID
Gary, IN – Jabari Henry homered twice and the Sioux Falls Canaries utilized some late-game heroics to snap a three-game losing streak with a 5-4 win at Gary SouthShore on Saturday.
Henry launched a solo homerun in the top of the first to open the scoring. The RailCats tied the game with an RBI double in the bottom of the third and took the lead on a two-run homer an inning later.
Sioux Falls tied the game with two runs in the top of the seventh. Grady Mee led off the frame with a double and Cam Hassert was hit by a pitch. Mee scored on a double from TJ Racherbaumer and an RBI fielder’s choice from Joe Vos brought in Hassert. But Gary SouthShore had an answer, grabbing the lead right back with an RBI double in the home half.
Henry launched his second roundtripper with one out in the top of the eighth to tie the game at 4-4 and Spencer Bauer struck out the side in the bottom of the inning.
Back-to-back two-out ninth inning doubles from Joe Vos and Mike Hart put the Canaries back in front. A leadoff walk in the home half brought the winning run to the plate. A sacrifice bunt and groundout put two outs on the scoreboard before the Birds issued an intentional walk. A stolen base got the winning run to second but a lineout to Trevor Achenbach ended the threat.
Henry finished with three hits while Mee had two. Charlie Hasty tossed a scoreless ninth inning to earn his 17th save. The Canaries (45-47) play their final road game of the regular season Sunday at 2:00pm.
